Lost Survey

Friends,

Below is a survey of viewers of the finale of the television show Lost. I have some theories about why people liked it or hated it, and so to determine whether these theories are useful to explain the wide range of reactions people have had, I am posting this survey. Data will be collected and analyzed.

Rules:

PLEASE ANSWER THE QUESTION AS ASKED: I WILL HAVE DIFFICULTY SCORING NONSTANDARD ANSWERS. IF 1,2,3,4 etc are asked for as responses, these will be the only scorable answers. Others will not be able to entered into the dataset.

1) Participate ONLY if you watched the Lost finale on May 23 or on some subsequent date. If you did not watch it, don't answer at all. This survey is only for those who saw the finale at some point.
2) Be as honest as you can. There is no right answer. This data is being collected and analyzed by me, W. Doc Stodden, for my own purposes and will not be sold/traded or otherwise disseminated to any other person for any reason. Nor will your name be attached in any way to your responses when they are entered into my dataset.
3) Once the data is collected and analyzed, your submissions will be deleted.
4) Results will be posted once we have enough respondents.
5) Copy and paste the survey into your response in THIS thread (don't begin a new thread) and then answer them directly. I will only include the responses I see in this thread in the final dataset. (If you are taking this survey elsewhere, copy and paste into that thread).
6) If you'd like to help me collect data on this, let me know privately, and I will give you instructions. The more responses I get the more complete the data will be, and the more valid generalizations I will be able to make.

Chapter 11 of Ethical Socialism is published

Hello everyone.  I am making progress on my theory book.  This chapter is called "On the Conduct of the Revolution."  It can be read here.  If you haven't already make sure you sign up for a site membership, because otherwise it will not be accessible.

The Gaza Conflict (In response to Rafi Dowty)

Rafi makes a good point about proportionality. Just war theory dictates that when force must be used, it must be proportional: That is, as Rafi points out, precisely enough force to resolve the problem, and no more. While Rafi is absolutely correct in his definition, I am still not entirely convinced that Israel's act is fully justified. I will agree that everything Rafi pointed out here has been tried. They have tried discussions, they have tried surgical strikes and blockades, and all this, and granted, none of it has worked in dislodging Hamas from Gaza, or keeping them from firing rockets at Israel.

Memoirs of a Marine Recruit, Phase 1- MCRD San Diego

This weekend I took my annual trip down memory lane. The days between June 4th and June 7th are always kind of strange for me. Many people who aren't regularly associated with me or are good friends don't know that I spent 4 years in the Marine Corps. I shipped out from South Bend IN June 6th, 1995, arrived at MCRD San Diego the evening of June 7th 1995, and was discharged June 4th, 1999, a Friday, because my real discharge date was on a Sunday (I got out two days early for the price of a Burger King Whopper Value Meal).

Memoirs of a Marine Recruit, Phase 2- Edson Range

Returning to this account after a long time, I realize that it is generally unfinished. Right before we actually went up to Edson Range, on Camp Pendleton, a small buzz was created among the recruits who may have had older brothers go through boot camp before them. We were about to go "up north" which is suppose is like a mini-deployment, the first experienced by young Marine recruits. We were leaving our squadbay behind for good, and we proceeded to clean the thing from top to bottom. That night we loaded everything we owned into our seabags, and readied them to be loaded into a truck the next day.
